Because I’m a Mother
As a mother of three, I had driven my fair share of times to the emergency room for broken bones and stitches. In my mind, I thought this would be just another long night in the waiting room only to return later with some remedy of sorts. I told Alex not to wake his younger brother and sister, and I’d call him as soon as I knew anything.
It was midnight. I don’t know the exact date. It was October of 2003, and my life, my wonderfully normal, every woman’s routine life was about to change. Thank goodness I didn’t know as I backed out of our driveway that from that moment on, my safe, comfortable life would be forever changed.
